Ureshii is located in ‘The Arts House’, formerly the Old Parliament House. It is an important site of Singapore’s history. Built in 1827, it is Singapore’s oldest government building. It served as the Parliament House of Singapore right up till 1999. It was then renamed as The Arts House The elephant statue is a bronze monument, standing tall at the front entrance, is also a time-honored historical treasure that Singapore is proud of. The gift to Singapore, was given by Thailand’s King Chulalorkorn, to commemorate his first overseas landing and official state visit to Singapore, in 1871. Ureshii is located in the former reading room of the National Assembly building. The metal plaque on the wall to the right of the front door of the restaurant tells its history.
